The five schools taking part in the project held a joint videoconference at noon on World Book Day, 23 April. Around 60 students and 10 teachers from Denmark, Croatia, Poland, Sweden and the UK shared their experiences in the project so far and talked about some of the books they had read. It was a very exciting event as this was also the first time that all the AMORES schools met online together – previously they had only held bilateral videoconferences.
That evening an AMORES workshop on how to develop children’s love for literature was held as part of a nationwide World Book Night event in Croatia. The workshop took place at Primary School Horvati in Zagreb, and was co-organised by two project partners: CARNet and Primary School Horvati. Teachers Suzana Delić and Ivan Kardum ran the practical part of the workshop, while project coordinator and CARNet representative Gordana Jugo gave an overview of the project and the AMORES teaching methodology.
Workshop participants tried out several elements of the AMORES teaching methodology on the works of Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić. They had fun creating comic strips with Pixton and setting scenes from her most popular books in Lego, which can then be used to create comic strips or videos. In this way the participants learned how to encourage their pupils’ love for literature through digital collaboration and creativity.
